FRIENDS AND PARTNERS

wga black and white

The Williamsburg Gallery Association aids and encourages the public presentation of local, national, and international art in the vicinity of greater Williamsburg. Toward this end, the WGA promotes the art venues of Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Bushwick through public programs, advertising, and collaborative projects that reach out to the general public and the visual art community, both in New York and beyond. Our goal is to bring the dynamic creative activity of greater Williamsburg to the attention of the world. Every 2nd Friday from September to June, the galleries of the WGA are open from 6-9 pm.

Wagmag has been serving the art community in Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Brooklyn for six years, producing a monthly listing service for galleries as well as an up to date map, an arts events page, listings and critical reviews.

COMMUNITY – DRIVEN

FEAST is a recurring public dinner designed to use community-driven financial support to democratically fund new and emerging artmakers.

At each FEAST, participants will pay a sliding-scale entrance fee for which they will receive supper and a ballot. Diners will vote on a variety of proposed artist projects. At the end of dinner, the artist whose proposal receives the most votes will be awarded funds collected through the entrance fee to produce the project. The work will then be presented during the next FEAST.

WORKSHOPS

K. CARACCIO PRINTMAKING STUDIO

Weekend Workshops for 2010

Color Viscosity Monoprinting
January 16 & 17, 2010

Using oil and water-based colorants, students will create one of a kind prints worked from plastic plates. Explore chine colle, image transfers, multi-plate color registration and ghost impressions. Try drawing with a brayer and/or spontaneous solvent reticulation techniques. Numerous examples from the instructor’s collection will be shown. Printing inks, solvents and brushes provided – please bring your own oil paints if needed. No previous experience necessary.

Silk Aquatint, a.k.a. Silk Collagraph
February 13 & 14, 2010

Silk aquatint has the richness of mezzotint, the spontaneity of action painting, the sheer washes of a water color, the vivacious surface of a palette knife impasto and the durability of a steel-faced etching plate ALL WITHOUT ACID. This collagraphic plate-making method is created with acrylic paint: painting white onto a black field, similar to developing a mezzotint image. The resulting plates are intaglio printed through an etching press with oil-based and water-based ink and can last for over one-hundred impressions.

Paper Lithography (Printing from XEROX™)
March 6 & 7, 2010

If you’re interested in xerox transfer, this workshop is an opportunity to explore the possibilities of the xerox matrix print. This process utilizes photo copies to reproduce the printed word, computer generated type and photo images – as well as Xeroxes of drawings from your sketch book. Simply stated, the Xerox becomes the printing plate. Each photo copy is used only once. Samples from the instructor’s collection will be shown to better demonstrate the potential of this method. No prior printing experience needed.

Fine Art Collage and Adhesives Workshop
March 20 & 21, 2010

This intensive workshop is geared to de-mystify glues, tapes, and mounting techniques. Learn to use the appropriate adhesive for diverse materials, such as papers, wood, found objects, and cloth. Try new combinations of Western and Asian papers and discover how to seam papers together to create oversized pieces. You will be introduced to: chine colle (gluing & printing simultaneously), seam-gluingpaper, hinging choices, sampling a variety of glues and tapes, inserting cuttings, and setting up a drying/flattening stack. Discussion includes examination of archival life.
